What is Cabinet Refacing?

Cabinet refacing improves both the appearance and durability of your kitchen cabinets without changing the familiar layout of your kitchen. During the cabinet refacing process, we install new cabinet doors and drawer fronts, then cover the existing cabinet boxes with a veneer to match them.

Before & After Refacing Kitchen Cabinets

The projects you see here are all real kitchen remodeling jobs, in homes like yours. They aren't fantasy pictures of designer showrooms—they’re kitchens families use every day. These kitchen cabinet refacing projects, by Kitchen Tune-Up locations around the country, show how we tailor remodeling to fit homeowners’ unique needs and realistic budgets! You’ll see how each kitchen looked before, and how that same space looks now. Why do we always show you both the kitchen remodel before and after versions? We want you to see for yourself just how much difference Kitchen Tune-Up can make.

A true wood to white kitchen cabinet refacing! This Colorado Springs, CO space had all of the elements for the perfect kitchen: spacious layout, island space, nice backsplash and countertops. By updating the doors from a dark recessed panel to light and sleek white shaker, the kitchen looked brand new.

From underwhelming to unbelievable! The dated elements of this Philly suburb kitchen were upgraded to shiny and new. The original wood raised panel doors were refaced with white raised panels, new subway tile backsplash was installed, and existing granite was swapped for sleek Cambria quartz to give new life to this space.

A simple yet stunning update, this wood-to-gray cabinet reface really tied together the farmhouse elements of this Denver, CO kitchen.

The homeowners of this kitchen were ready to elevate their space to the wow factor. They updated their appliances all to stainless steel, and our team refaced the original raised panel white doors with the more modern shaker. Black wood grain paneling was added to the island for complementing color and texture. New granite countertops and fun accent backsplash tied everything together.

A white-to-white cabinet refacing that is anything but dull. The doors were switched from raised panel to shaker doors and a navy panel island to add a pop of color, topped with butcher block counters. New backsplash and granite counters were also installed.

Is Cabinet Refacing Right For Me?

Doors and drawer fronts wear down faster than the frames, so it's not always necessary to install new & custom cabinets. Refacing gives you the option to change the look of your kitchen without gutting your kitchen or your wallet! If you are happy with your existing kitchen layout but need an update, cabinet refacing is a good option for sprucing up your space by just replacing the veneer, doors, and drawers of your cabinets. If you need additional storage or kitchen organization, we can help you with that too!

If you want to give your home a brand-new look without a full kitchen remodel, this is an affordable alternative with little disruption to your day-to-day life. You’ll be amazed how just replacing the doors, drawer fronts, and veneer on your cabinets will transform your kitchen.

Most cabinet refacing jobs are completed in only  two to four days and we clean the work area each day, giving you full use of your cooking areas and plumbing in the evening. This gives you the chance for a renovation without disrupting the day-to-day activities in your home.

Yes. With our Refacing Plus option, we can install additional cabinets, drawers, and islands. This gives you even more options for an updated look and efficient space. We can even help you create special cabinetry like entertainment centers or home offices in other areas of your home.

For many people, do it yourself, home improvement projects can be rewarding and typically more affordable than paying professional contractors to do the job. This is, of course, if the task at hand is relatively straightforward. However, refacing cabinets is a challenging project, and if mistakes are made, it can turn out more costly than using a professional service.

Though you might save on labor by taking the DIY route, you’ll still need plenty of supplies and tools to complete the job, and purchasing them can be expensive. If you cheap out and buy all the products needed at the lowest price, to save money, it will likely result in a poor-quality job.

We have relationships with manufacturers who can provide us with high-quality products at the best price. If you try purchasing similar cabinet doors and draw fronts of the same quality yourself, it’s going to be much more costly.

Kitchen cabinet refacing requires a lot of expertise and attention to detail. Hiring a professional who has had plenty of experience in carrying out cabinetry work will guarantee the end results are perfect. If you mess up, it’s on your dollar, and having to fix the issue will add costs and time to your project.

You can expect us to complete the project as quickly as possible.. We have streamlined the process, have skilled, highly-trained professionals on hand, and have all the tools and materials needed to do the job right. Even the most skilled DIY enthusiast will struggle to complete the work within a week, and that’s if they get it right the first time.

If you are firmly determined to reface your cabinets yourself, remember that you don’t get the guarantees that a professional cabinet refacing company offers if you mess up. If you want a fast, professional service using high-quality tools and supplies, save yourself the stress and hire skilled cabinet refacing experts such as ourselves.

What Are My Cabinet Choices?

We have a comprehensive range of high-quality kitchen cabinet doors and you are sure to find the perfect match for your kitchen style. There are three main cabinet door styles to choose from: raised panel cabinet doors, recessed panel cabinet doors, and slab panel doors.

Types of Cabinet Doors

Raised Panel Cabinet Doors

This type of cabinet door offers a more traditional or ornate look with a raised central panel. Raised panel doors are a great choice for colonial, rustic, or Mediterranean-style kitchens.

Recessed Panel Kitchen Cabinet Doors

If the style of your kitchen is more contemporary or modern, the sleek look of recessed panel kitchen cabinet doors might fit the bill.  However, their minimalistic look means that they can fit in with most styles. As their name suggests, they have a recessed central panel. The most popular type of recessed panel cabinets is shaker cabinets, named after the Quaker breakaway group, the Shakers, who first manufactured this type of cabinet in the 18th Century.

Slab Panel Doors

These are flat kitchen cabinet doors with no panels; they are ideal if you want to emphasize other parts of your kitchen, such as countertops or lighting. And similar to recessed doors, they can complement most kitchen styles. They are also known as European-style cabinet doors, where they have been popular for decades.

Wood Choices

Kitchen Tune-Up offers a great selection of wood choices, as well as other materials that make great, durable custom cabinets. Talk with your kitchen consultant about the differences and what will be best for your project.   The perfect choice of custom kitchen cabinets will depend on your needs and preferences, but also your budget. If you aren’t sure which type of wood or cabinetry would be the best for you, then don’t be afraid to reach out to us – the consultations with our representatives are completely free! Oak

Oak has been a popular wood for cabinet and furniture making for many centuries. Oak is perfect for kitchen and bath cabinet doors and will blend in with many different design styles. Oak is a hard and heavy coarse-grained wood with a choice of red and white varieties and stains well in a range of color finishes.

Cherry

Cherry is a luxury wood that will add warmth to any room. Like a fine wine, kitchen cabinet doors made from cherry will age over time and darken when it is exposed to light. If you are looking for a darker elegant color, cherry could be the wood that matches your style.

Other popular woods that are used for cabinet doors include Alder, Hickory, and Walnut.

Maple

Maple is a durable and popular smooth-grained hardwood that is ideal for use in cabinetry. One of the benefits of maple is that it can be finished to resemble more expensive woods like cherry or cedar.

Rigid Thermofoil Cabinet Doors

A cost-effective, durable, and long-lasting alternative to wood doors is Rigid Thermofoil cabinet doors.   RTF doors consist of a Medium Density Fiberboard  (MDF) core with a durable vinyl laminate bonded onto it using heat and pressure. As RTF cabinet doors are layered with colored vinyl, they won’t fade even with years of use. RTF is also non-porous, making it easy to clean up any splatters or spills on your cabinet doors. This is why RFT doors are one of our top sellers; we have them available in many styles and colors, including cream, gray, and white, as well as wood grain colors.

Should I Replace or Reface my Kitchen Cabinets?

Refacing costs around half the price of installing new cabinets and is less intrusive; you’ll also see amazing results! If you are looking to sell your home soon, refacing will add value, and as it is around 40-50% cheaper than a complete kitchen renovation, it’s the more cost-effective solution.

The option to reface or replace with new will probably be decided on the state of your existing cabinets. If your kitchen cabinet boxes are structurally damaged, they aren’t as functional as you like, or you want to remodel your full kitchen, new cabinetry would be best. In many cases, just putting a new face on an old kitchen will make you fall in love with it again.
