Raised center panels made the old cabinet doors look dated, and the brown and beige tiles were distractingly large. The Tunified kitchen fixes those problems simply but effectively! The client chose Shaker doors in two tones—white on upper cabinets and indigo ink on lower cabinets. Brushed steel hardware complements the steel appliances. The backsplash, now variegated shades of blue, creates a beautiful transition between the blue cabinets and the white cabinets.

What to do if you want a big style change without lots of disruption? Get your old cabinets refaced! This homeowner wanted a new look for these 20-year-old cabinets. Sleek, modern slab doors are the winning solution. The lower doors and island are in “dolce vita,” adding color and pattern, thanks to the vertical wood grain. The upper cabinets sport cool, white doors. New, white countertops match the upper cabinets and a white tile backsplash completes the picture.

This impressive remodel took out a wall to create one unified, spacious combination of kitchen, living area and dining area. The design opens up the kitchen, expands the existing island to increase seating, and turns a counter into a peninsula with even more seating and a new cooktop. The Colorado Springs KTU team refaced the oak cabinets with lovely knotty alder doors in a caramel stain.

Two-tone style jazzes up this kitchen, taking it from dark and dull to marvelously modern. The old rustic doors are gone, replaced with popular Shaker doors in white, on upper cabinets, and black fox, anchoring the lower cabinets. The real drama here is over the stove: KTU removed cabinets and dropped in a stainless steel vent hood, against a new backsplash of boldly patterned tile. This eye-catching focal point is like artwork livening up the whole kitchen.

Without changing a thing in the layout, this project uses refacing to create an entirely revamped look. The pale, pickled oak is gone. The crisp white color on the new, narrow Shaker doors brightens the room. The original walls behind the stove and above the cabinets were mauve, with a wallpaper border, but that dated look gives way to an eye-catching, contemporary new backsplash of slim, horizontal tiles in grays to coordinate with the new countertops.

Two of the biggest trends of recent years—white Shaker cabinets and a white subway tile backsplash—demonstrate why they’re so enduringly popular. They convert this kitchen into an oasis of light. A bigger, deeper sink in stainless steel is both functional and great-looking. Swapping some of the cabinets for drawers increases storage options. The biggest change: KTU removed hanging cabinets that loomed over the peninsula, opening up this bright new kitchen to the living area just beyond it.

Before: These dark cabinets badly needed refreshing. Their look clashed with the much more modern appliances. A simple repainting job makes a huge difference here. The client chose a flint color that picks up on the tones in the existing countertop and also echoes the sheen of the stainless steel appliances. Satin-finish nickel hardware completes the cabinets’ newly sophisticated look.

A one-day Tune-Up restored this stained, dull cabinet so it looks better than new. The Tune-Up removed the ugly stain on the drawer, restored the wood’s glossiness, and brought out the cabinets’ golden color again. Attractive new drawer and door pulls not only look good, they also are easy to use. Sometimes a quick, focused refinishing job is just what a kitchen needs.
