Cabinet Refacing vs. Refacing Plus: What’s the Difference?
If you’re exploring ways to update your kitchen without the cost or hassle of a full remodel, cabinet refacing is likely on your radar. But you might also be hearing about something called “Refacing Plus.” So what’s the difference—and how do you know which option is right for your kitchen?
At Kitchen Tune-Up, we offer both services, and we’re here to break it down for you.
What Is Cabinet Refacing?
Cabinet refacing is a great option give your kitchen a completely new look without replacing your existing cabinet boxes. Here’s what’s typically included in a standard cabinet refacing project:
- All new doors and drawer fronts, custom-made to fit your cabinets
- Durable, color-matched veneer applied to cabinet boxes
- Updated hardware (hinges, handles, knobs)
- A fast, professional installation—usually completed in only a few days. Your existing countertops, floors, backsplash, remain in place without need to disconnect and reconnect plumbing.
Refacing is ideal if your cabinet boxes are in good condition and you're happy with the existing layout of your kitchen. You get a fresh, modern look without the mess or extended downtime of full renovation.
What Is Refacing Plus?
Refacing Plus builds on the core benefits of cabinet refacing, but gives homeowners the opportunity to customize even further. It’s the perfect option for those who want a little more than a cosmetic refresh but aren’t quite ready for a full cabinet replacement.
In addition to everything included in standard refacing, Refacing Plus may also feature:
- Upgrade by modifying cabinets to allow for new or larger appliances, create space for a dishwasher, or relocate appliances for a new layout.
- Add or expand an island
- Add crown molding, decorative panels, or other custom features for a high-end finish.
- Add small cabinets above existing wall cabinets to extend them to the ceiling, available with or without glass doors for a stylish, customized look.
- Convert base cabinets into drawer stacks, improving storage and accessibility.
- Create a beverage center or coffee station, enhancing convenience and kitchen functionality.
Think of Refacing Plus as a bridge between refacing and a custom cabinet remodel. You get personalized upgrades and improved functionality without starting from scratch.
