The History of the Tuniverse
Kitchen Tune-Up was founded in 1988 by David and Cindy Haglund in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Dave had been successfully operating a cabinet store since 1977, and his high-energy style had him experimenting with different products and creating a checklist of items that his team could use to make a kitchen “look and run like new,” because not all kitchens needed all new cabinets. Often kitchens that were only a few years old had areas that needed to be refreshed to keep the cabinetry looking and functioning at its best. He called it a Kitchen Tune-Up.
Dave was passionate about entrepreneurship and quickly began franchising the new company offering wood restoration Tune-Ups. He and Cindy loved watching the franchise owners grow a business, create new jobs in their communities, and give customers wonderful kitchens along with a wonderful experience. As the customer’s needs changed, so did Kitchen Tune-Up. More services were added to improve kitchens, and today Kitchen Tune-Up specializes in 5 ways to update kitchens and cabinetry including the proprietary 1 Day Tune-Up, cabinet painting, redooring, refacing, and new cabinets. Whether your kitchen needs a quick refresh or a complete renovation, our franchisees (Tunies) and their teams will tune it up.
In 2003, Dave & Cindy’s eldest daughter, Heidi Morrissey joined the company and led marketing and sales at the franchise Home Office for 13 years. In 2017, Heidi became president of the franchise system.
In 2021, Kitchen Tune-Up along with its sister brand, Bath Tune-Up joined the Home Franchise Concepts family of brands. Heidi continues as brand president, leading our Tuniverse for both companies as we continue to grow in more markets across the country, with our Tunies and their teams creating amazing, "Tunified" kitchens and an amazing remodeling experience for our clients.
Kitchen Tune-Up franchise locations are independently owned and operated but supported by a franchise family with over 30 years’ as leads in the home improvement industry.
