Kitchen Tune-Up Downers Grove Strikes Out Hunger

The Humanitarian Service Project, based in DuPage County Illinois, hosted its 5th annual Strike Against Hunger bowling fundraiser to fight childhood hunger, with a goal of raising $5,200 to provide support for 40 children in the Children’s Project.

Marty Ceranec, the owner of Kitchen Tune-Up of Downers Grove, agreed to match donations up to $1,500 toward the event. The bowlers and donors came out in full force and when Marty heard the results of our event, he increased his match to $2,000, bringing the total raised to $6,351.64!  Through the incredible support of Kitchen Tune-Up Downers Grove, the bowlers and all the donors, the Humanitarian Service Project was able to exceed their goal and provide 49 children with life altering support.

Through enrollment in the Children’s Project, each sponsorship provides a child and their family with vital nutrition in the summertime when subsidized meals are not available through school, as well as emergency food support throughout the year. Children also receive a birthday box that includes new toys, books and party supplies to celebrate their birthday. Additionally, each child of school age receives school supplies to set them up for success in the classroom.

Tameca, a mother whose kids are enrolled in the program, share how the Children’s Project makes a difference in her children’s lives. She said, “They never go hungry because of the Children’s Project. Each year, they can have a very special birthday and Christmas because of the generous people in our community. Thanks a lot, and much love to everyone’s kind heart and for helping families, like mine, in need.”
